Paper

The simplest way to reduce waste is through classroom paper usage. Instead of using only one side of the sheet require students to use both sides. Instead of skipping every other line for the sack of neatness during rough draft essay writing, have students use wide rule paper.

This effort need not only apply to loose leaf paper but spiral and composition notebooks as well. If the notebook is used for daily journals have students draw a line under the day's entry and begin the next day’s entry underneath it. This means less space wasted and less need for a notebook to be purchased every marking period.

Have a recycling box for scrap paper and encourage students to use it for pop quizzes. Think green and restrict students from using computer paper to print non-essentials like song lyrics or photos of celebrities.

Electricity

A great way to go green and reduce the energy usage of the classroom is to shut out the lights and take the lesson outside. During the more temperate months this is a great way to loosen up both you and your students.

Don't use the air conditioning and heater when unnecessary. If students have to bring a light jacket to school during spring and summer then you might be using the cooling system excessively.

Always turn out the lights when the class heads to lunch or activities outside of the classroom. Be sure to turn off computers at the end the school day unless you are connected to a network that might be updated when the school day is done.

Ways To Go Green In Classroom.

This are the things u can do to make your ur classroom much more GREENER!

1)Write with recycled pencils: This number two pencil is also made of recycled wood.

2) Acid-free glue stick: For all your art projects, use acid-free glue stick, which is less messier than liquid glue and better for the environment.

3)Recharge batteries: Rechargeable batteries can save the earth from harmful metals and compounds that can’t be broken down when you toss out old batteries.

4)Open windows: If the temperature is nice outside, regulate your inside temperature by opening up the windows. Fresh air will also rejuvenate you and your students.

5)Water your garden with your leftovers: If you have leftover water from a cooking or science assignment, use it to water your plants outside instead of throwing it down the drain.

6) Encourage students to use both sides of the paper: Teachers have been battling this problem for a while. Ask your students to use both sides of the paper for homework assignments. You can even reward them an extra bonus point or two if they remember.

Classroom Improvement Tips

1. Accessibility and Space
Frequently used classroom materials must be accessible to students at all times. Organize shelves and storage areas so the students will know where materials and equipment belong. Pathways throughout the room, such as those to pencil sharpener, drinking fountains, or trashcans, must be designed to avoid congestion. More physical space is to be created to meet student needs to generate student interest .
2. Seating Arrangement
Seating arrangements should allow students a clear view of instructional presentations.. Be consistent with the amount of contact among students needed for a particular type of discussion
3. Lighting, Ventilation, and Acoustics
Lighting affect students’ behavior, alertness, and ability to learn. Experts suggest that the best approach to classroom lighting is a balance of indirect or up light and of the controlled direct or down light. Caring for live plants can give your classroom a warm, comforting feel. Plants can help maintain a favorable temperature for the classroom and they can also help teach students responsibility – and science! Speech in the classroom must be heard over the prevailing background noise level. A quiet background and control of reverberation and self-noise are requirements for good hearing.
4. Visibility and Security
We should create a retreat area for students to have separation from the rest of the class. Room dividers should be low so that all areas are visible to you. Teachers should always be able to make eye contact with all students. Make sure that your classroom complies with safety standards for fire, earthquake, and other emergency situations. Keep a First Aid kit in your classroom. Also, secure equipment or materials with locks and latches.
5. Classroom Decors and Visual Aids
Use a variety of colors and textures to create a pleasing environment. Colorful posters, and instructionally relevant bulletin board foster students’ learning enthusiasm. Here’s a list of some online resources that will help you decorate your classroom: Personalize classroom space so that it communicates information about you and your students. Display student work as well as evidence of your own accomplishments or experiences. Acknowledge students’ progress and achievements. When you have finished setting up your classroom, give it a practice run or two. Survey the light, temperature, and the ambiance of the room. A classroom that is welcoming, comfortable, clean, and secure will surely help the class create a positive learning experience.
